A tractor and semi-trailer rig, driven by Hassan Mohamed, age 26 of Columbus, Ohio, was involved in an accident Nov. 19 around 5 a.m. The truck was loaded with dried powered milk from Pennsylvania; its destination was Georgia, Vt. The truck traveled to Vermont via the Champlain Bridge in West Addison. Patches of black ice were reported. As the truck crossed the bridge the operator was unable to negotiate a sharp curve on the Vermont side; he continued straight, across the opposite lane and struck several large trees on the opposite shoulder. There was significant damage to the vehicle with partial loss of cargo. The operator was transported to Porter Hospital in Middlebury and treated for minor injuries and released. A passenger, Ali Hidig, age 42 of Nashville, Tenn., was also transported to Porter Hospital, but was subsequently flown by DART helicopter to Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital for advanced medical treatment. A photograph of the truck wreck appeared in last weeks issue of the Addison Eagle. The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Vermont State Police in New Haven.
