Panthers boast size, optimism

CROWN POINT Size and a talented group of rookies has the Crown Point boys basketball team looking forward to the 2007-08 season. This winters Panthers will boast a 6-foot-5 center and a pair of 6-2 forwards as they enter the Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference wars. But leading the way for Coach Randy many will be a trio of seniors. Guards Jacob Spring and Travis Tabor give Crown Point a solid back court. Spring averaged 9.7 points game and Tabor 7 ppg last season for the Panthers. Also back is senior Adam Clark, who scored 3 points a game a year ago. John Budwick, a 6-5 center who led the Crown Point junior varsity to a 10-4 season in 2006-07, is expected to make an immediate impact. Joining Spring and Tabor at guard will be Mac Kiely, Will Glebus, Cody Wayman and Tony Rodriquez. At forward will be 6-2 Justin Potter, 6-2 Ian LaBounty and Sam Muroff. All will contribute a great amount as I can take any player and run with the best teams in the league, Mandy said. Size and speed are going to be real keys for me this year. These young men know how to play smart ball and pull the ball out when no shot is there. So keep your eye out on the Crown Point Panthers this year, he added. Good things will happen. We need to cut down on turnovers, play smart ball and be very aggressive. We will match very well with teams like Schroon Lake, E-town and Westport. So looking for a very good year are the Crown Point Panthers.
