Incentives offered for those taming the "refrigerator energy monster"

ROUSES POINT The Village of Rouses Point, in conjunction with Independent Energy Efficiency Program Inc., will offer a refrigerator recycling and Energy Star refrigerator replacement program called Tame the Refrigerator Monster. The programs goal is to encourage Rouses Point Electric residential customers to upgrade their refrigerators to Energy Star labeled models and to remove and properly recycle old refrigerators. Village residential electric customers can receive an incentive of $75 per refrigerator when they purchase a qualifying Energy Star Labeled refrigerator as well as receiving another $75 incentive for recycling their old refrigerator when picked up by a participating IEEP contractor. There is a maximum incentive of $300 per customer for this program. The village has been offering energy efficiency programs to their customers for years. We assist our customers by offering energy efficient products like Energy Star labeled appliances and proper recycling programs, stated village mayor George Rivers, which in turn has a positive effect on the environment, reduces our customers electric costs, and our peak electric load. When recycling old refrigerators, much of the materials are reused, and harmful refrigerants are removed in an environmentally-safe manner. Energy Star labeled products use state of the art technology and require less money and less energy to operate, while still offering superior performance. By choosing Energy Star labeled appliances, Rouses Point electric ratepayers can make a difference in protecting the environment and reducing their electric costs. Residential electric customers can receive more information and obtain an application at the village office building, located at 139 Lake St.
