Meet the Candidates: Frank Morehouse, Jr.

In the budget process, Morehouse said hed like to see t he town use more long-range planning to prevent spikes in the tax rate.

Put some money in the budget each year for equipment so we dont see spikes, Morehouse said. I think small, level increases are better than big spikes every so often.

Morehouse said hed like to see the town work with the county to explore grant opportunities to help local businesses. He pointed to a group doing work to beautify Main Street in North Creek using grant money as an example of what might be possible.

The solutions to problems arent always obvious, Morehouse said, and town leaders need to think outside the box. The town pond at Ski Bowl Park is an example, he said.

Should it remain a beach, or maybe we need to turn it into a camping area or even a day-use area, Morehouse said. Maybe we could team with a developer for a joint pool project.

The issue of property assessments should be looked at very carefully before taking action, he said.

Would it help the town? he said. Yes, but theres a segment of property owners who wouldnt benefit.

Similarly, with countywide issues such as a proposed increase with in the sales tax, leaders need to look at it from all sides.

It could help lower county taxes, he said. Would it hurt tourism? Personally I dont think so but you have to consider all sides.

Morehouse said hed like the campaign to be positive and focus on issues.

Theres a lot of negativity out there and we need to avoid that, he said. Lets keep it positive.
