Meet the Candidates: Frank Morehouse, Jr.

JOHNSBURG Three town residents will square off in a primary on Sept. 18 to see who will represent the Republican party in the race for two seats on the Johnsburg Town Board - Jean Comstock, Frank Morehouse, Jr., and incumbent Town Board member Eugene Arsenault.

The primary winners will represent the Republican Party in the November general election in a race that already features Ron Vanselow and Marko Schmale representing the Democratic, Conservative and newly announced Smart Growth parties.

In the second of a three-part series, Frank Morehouse shares his background, views and reasons for joining the race. In the final installment, Arsenault will have the same opportunity.

Frank Morehouse, Jr., is a North Creek native. He and his wife are the parents of five children, four sons and a daughter who was killed in an automobile crash in 1992.

Professionally, Morehouse works for Warren County as the building superintendent.

In the community, Morehouse has been a member of the Johnsburg Central School Board for 20 years.

I have a lot of experience with budgets and I am familiar with most of the people in town, Morehouse said of his school board tenure.

Morehouse said hed like to serve on the Town Board because he has a strong interest in seeing that the town has some development without allowing things to go crazy.

There are benefits in growth and development, Morehouse said, particularly in raising revenue and keeping property taxes low.

We need controlled growth, Morehouse said. We need it to be where we want it to be and not just anywhere.

We need to keep development around the ski areas and around the hamlet and keep the outlying areas without too much development.

Growth requires new infrastructure and Morehouse would like to see the cost of that borne primarily by the developers who benefit from the growth, he said.
