Golfers tee off in Newcomb

NEWCOMB Although it was a chilly morning for golf - especially for August - the third annual Robert Dubay Memorial Golf Tournament was a resounding success.

The tournament, played Aug. 19 at the High Peaks Golf Course in Newcomb, was enjoyed by over 72 contestants. The money raised from the event goes to a scholarship fund for students at Newcomb Central School.

This year, before the tournament started, the Chamber of Commerce awarded Newcomb Supervisor, and tournament participant, George Canon a handsome self-portrait. It was painted by Jackie La Course who did an excellent job of capturing Canon on canvas.

It was a great day out for all, despite the cool weather, with the help of The High Peaks Golf Committee.
