A Bleu Day at the Champlain Valley Fair

What time is it? Summertime! Its our vacation. What time is it? Party time!

Those exuberant lyrics jumpstart the long anticipated Disney sequel High School Musical 2 (HSM 2). Its unexpectedly bouncier and brighter than its predecessor.

Being an East High School student (even in summer) is heaven! In fact, Charles Isherwood of The New York Times describes the HSM phenomenon as a new religiona nascent creed that has stolen the hearts and minds of thousands of young Americans.

These school kids live for music. And one of themCorbin Bleu, who plays Chadwill be at the Champlain Valley Fair on Aug. 27.

You can easily imagine the East High gang leaving Albuquerque and heading for Vermont to see their friend. Lets Go Big!, they would sing in chorus. They might travel out east in a car caravan. The Disney movie about their voyage could be High School Musi-cars!

And when they arrive? Fried dough, ice-cold lemonade, and singin the Bleus!

Corbin Bleu, now 18, was a winsome computer geek in Catch That Thief (Fox, 2004), but his real fame came in the original Romeo-and-Juliet-like HSM. He played the romantic leads best friend Chad Danforth, described by Bleu as a very off-the-wall characteron the edgehyper and crazya Disney Mercutio.

After the first HSM, Bleu earned a starring role in Jump In! another Disney film. As a teen who forsakes boxing to join a girls double-Dutch jump-rope team, he leaped into idolatry. He also released his first album, Another Side, earlier this year.

Bleu and other HSM actors are the latest of a long line of teen stars spawned by Disney television. From the 1950s, when the Mickey Mouse Club (MMC) showcased Annette Funicello, through the 1990s, when a revised MMC showed off Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aquilera, and Keri Russell, Disney has made many ambitious (and often talented) youngsters Hollywood dreams come true.

Corbin Bleu will be at the Coca-Cola Grandstand, Champlain Valley Exposition, Essex Junction at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 27. On the same program are Drake Bell (one of the stars of Nickelodeons Drake & Josh) and 16-year old Jordan Pruitt (the opening act for HSM: the Concert). Tickets are $26.75 and include Fair admission if purchased prior to the day of the show.

Its party time! Enjoy summer while it lasts.
