Ti church presents scholarship

TICONDEROGA The Rev. Scott Tyler and the trustees of the First United Methodist Church of Ticonderoga awarded the George and Anna Towne Scholarship to Jonathan Blanchard at a worship service recently.

Art Secor, representing the trustees, presented the award to Blanchard.

George and Anna Towne bequeathed the income from their residuary estate to any man or woman who has been a permanent resident of Ticonderoga or Horicon for at least two years preceding the application for maintenance and education expenses. The applicant must be between the ages of 15 and 25 and studying at or about to enter any accredited religious institution, theological school or seminary, to be a minister, priest or rabbi.

Blanchard will be a sophomore at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind.

He hopes to serve in a church to fulfill the requirements for ordination in the Wesleyan Church.

He is employed in Ticonderoga for the summer at Stewarts Shops and the Ticonderoga Festival Guild.
