HINESBURG A community field day for all ages is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 18, at 4 p.m. on the fields behind the Hinesburg Town Hall.
The event will offer a variety of games as well as a barbeque and an outside showing of the film Singing in the Rain. Activities include croquet, boccie, kickball, capture the flag, an obstacle course for bikers, water-balloon relay races, and sack races.
The community day is a result of hard work and planning on behalf of several task forces that were created through the Vermont Council for Rural Development. Last winter, the council and a multi-generational task force began work to bring a community center to Hinesburg.
The idea of the field day is to generate awareness that there is in fact a community center task force, said Carrie Fenn, who has been working with the task force since its inception.
The task force does not receive any kind of funding, Fenn added, and she hopes to receive a donation of some sort to help cover the cost of the food for the barbeque. The event is free to the public, although the barbeque will be pot-luck, and attendees are encouraged to bring a salad or dessert dish.
One of the teens involved in the task force suggested an outside viewing of Singing in the Rain, a movie suitable for all ages. Because of the longer summer days, the viewing will not begin until around 8 p.m.
Im sure the sun will still be high in the sky, added Fenn.
This is not the first event sponsored by the task force. Fenn said that they have also held a dance for the teenagers of Hinesburg and hosted an afternoon of movies at the town hall.
