Girls hockey player, Maddy Guay has also done her hometown proud, making it to the Empire State games twice - and this year taking the gold medal.
Maddy, daughter of Corinne and Roger, plays mostly right wing, and during the regular season plays for the TroyAlbany Ice Cats. That team has also been very successful, making in the past two years, making it to the state in the past two years, and and then the national competitions.
Playing the Empire games is different. Just awesome, Maddy said.
We played three solid lines and the fourth was rotated.
We all worked together as a team, Maddy added, we have to do a lot of passing in order to get goals.
Maddy, who will be a junior at Chazy Central this year, said she plans to continue playing hockey, admitting it is not such a common sport for females to be into.
Just making the team
For Nolan Ryan, trying out for the Empire State games was no easy task. More than 100 players had to be narrowed down to just 16 players.
Try outs were in Albany, and players were required to make at least two out of four sessions; he made three. Stetson Fields, also of Chazy, made the team as an alternate player.
Maddy Guay was one of 20 chosen for her hockey team out of approximately 60-70 players. Her tryouts were held in Lake Placid, but then they had to travel to Potsdam one week prior to the Empire Games for practices twice daily.
Maddy was the only player to try out from the area this year, last year she was among five.
