Two Chazy teens take the Gold at Empire State Games

CHAZY Chazy, forever proud of their fine athletes, can be even prouder now that the quaint little community is home to not one but two gold medalists.

Boys Soccer
You may recall that back in 2004, Nolan Ryan, son of Tim and Kathy, scored the goal that finally won the State Championship for the Chazy Eagles boys soccer team.

The Eagles took the state championship once again in 2005.

Nolan, whose family has always been into soccer, has made the Adirondack division team in the Empire State Games for the past two years running. Last year his team took bronze - but this year they made it all the way to win the gold.

We played really good, we all worked very hard for the gold medal, said Nolan, who plays striker forward.

Out of the four games his team played in the tournament, there were only four scores, he said.

It was just a really good competition.

Hes too modest, said his mother, Kathy.

She went on to give a recap of the tournament. The first team the Adirondack division played was Long Island, beating them 1-0. Next they took Hudson Valley by the same store, and with that win the Western division, qualifying them for the medal rounds.

We didnt score until the last six minutes of play, Nolan added.

Finally they had to face the New York City division.

We beat them in a shoot-out, said Mrs. Ryan.

Nolan explained that in that situation, 7 players from each team face the goalie 1 on 1; they have 5seconds to shoot the ball. A total of 7 shots scored, 4 of them by the Chazy team (though for technical purposes, the end score was 1-0); NYC took the Silver medal.

Nolan, a senior this fall, has already been contacted by college scouts from Plattsburgh State University, Oneida, and St. Lawrence County. While he is still unsure of where hell end up going, one thing is certain, I will play soccer in college, Nolan said.
