Tri-Lakes area residents aim to help Haitians

The Haitian people struggle to live. Infant mortality is double that of the Dominican Republic. There is one doctor for every 4,000 residents. Only 39 percent of the people have access to safe drinking water. Daily calorie consumption is just a little over 1/2 of the UN recommended levels. The literacy rate is 51 percent and only 35 percent of students finish primary school. The U.S. is its main trading partner.

Another group will be going for a second week and will assist with several construction projects and teaching ESL. For everyone involved it is an opportunity to get to know and build relationships with people in Haiti and make new connections with the people in the Adirondacks.
