Connor buys Standard Register facility

Connor Building Company/Connor Homes of Middlebury, Vt., has purchased the 115,000-square-foot former Standard Register building on Route 7 South in Middlebury. The building company is owned by Michael Connor. Connor Building has been a designer and builder of New England colonial-style reproduction houses since the 1970s. Connors operation of using so-called pre-engineering and component building manufacturing techniques requires space; the success of the company, at its current Exchange Street, will see a new mill shop and other manufacturing areas within the Route 7 facility. Local rumors about a possible big box retailer at the Route 7 site were unfounded. According to Connors Web site, the firms pre-engineering approach to building is similar to traditional Vermont building techniques dating back to the 1700s.
