The DeVoid Dairy Farm, located along Route 7 in Middlebury, was sold this week to Nop Brothers Farm of Salisbury. The 293-acre farm, owned by brothers Ronald and Ricky DeVoid, was farmed by the DeVoid family for 46 years. A farm auction will be held May 9. At that time, livestock and machinery will be sold. DeVoid farmland straddles both sides of Route 7 around the intersection of Three Mile Bridge Road and the highway. The property also includes the old Middlebury Town Farm and extends south to land across Route 7 from the Wire Wheel. The cost of farming has gotten so high, its hard for small family farmers to make a living. You just cant make a living on $10 or $15 milk, said Laura Devoid, wife of farmer Ronald DeVoid. Once youve been a farmer, its hard to give up the farming life. Weve been one with land for years. This sale will not be easy. Its very hard, very emotional.
