Community Appreciation, Shred Fest

TICONDEROGA — To conclude its annual Credit Union Week celebration, the Ticonderoga Federal Credit Union will host its first Community Appreciation Event and fourth annual Shred Fest on Saturday, Oct. 19, 1 to 4 p.m. at the Best Western Plus of Ticonderoga.
Community Appreciation Event is a free, carnival-themed event featuring family-friendly activities. Activities will include a bounce-house for children, Penelope the Clown to provide free face-painting and balloons, a chance to win prizes by spinning the prize wheel, information about TFCU’s products and services including youth savings accounts, online and mobile banking demo, loan referral program and new member registration. TFCU members are encouraged to bring a friend or family member who is not yet a TFCU member to the event.
“We’re happy to provide a family-friendly event as a means of giving back to the community,” said Shawn Hayes, TFCU president and CEO. “TFCU members and non-members alike are invited to partake in the activities and learn more about the credit union.”
Shred Fest is a free paper-shredding event to increase public awareness of identity theft prevention. Community members are invited to bring their confidential documents to be shredded on site in a mobile shredding truck at the Best Western Plus of Ticonderoga.
Shredding documents containing personally identifying information before throwing them away is one of the most important ways consumers can prevent identity theft. Paper, folders, envelopes, check registers, paper bound by staples, paperclips and spiral binding can be shredded, however documents bound with metal binder clips cannot. A donation of a non-perishable food item in exchange for the free service is suggested. Proceeds from the recycling of documents shredded at the event will be donated to local food pantries.
