The Southern Adirondacks have a rich heritage in textile production dating back to the early 1800’s due to easy access to raw materials and inexpensive water power to run the machines. Beginning in 2010, the 10 employees of Battenkill Fibers Carding and Spinning Mill continue this tradition, using restored semi-worsted milling machinery to provide value-added, custom carding and spinning services for fiber farms and others in a 300+ mile radius of the mill. They also manufacture yarn and fiber products for national wholesale and retail markets, producing artisan-quality, natural-colored and dyed yarn in a renovated 6,000 sq.ft. facility in Washington County, NY. Come for a tour that is historical, educational, and hands-on - you'll be amazed!
NOTE: When you register for the class please indicate whether you would like to carpool with others and travel from AFS to the mill.
