Did you know the average NY household wastes 25% of the energy they pay for? Minerva-based Community Power Network of New York State (CPN) will be sponsoring a free home energy workshop in partnership with TAG Home Performance, to provide information to local residents about how to reduce the amount of energy used in their homes. The workshop will be held on Wednesday October 10th from 6-8pm at the Minerva Fire House located at 1495 State Rte 28N, Minerva, NY.
Regardless of your income, there are programs available to help make your home more efficient, comfortable, safer and healthier. The cost of making home improvements can often be paid for with energy savings. The first step is receiving a Comprehensive Home Assessment or Energy Audit, which is FREE for most homeowners. Volunteers will be on hand to assist those who want to apply for an audit. Households who qualify for HEAP should bring a copy of their most recent HEAP approval letter. Households with incomes above HEAP guidelines should bring a 12-month summary of the electric and heating usage for their home.
To heat and power itself, the Adirondack region currently uses more than 46 million gallons of fuel oil and LPG, and 925 million kWh of electricity annually, draining $263 million a year from struggling economies of the region. Investing in local efficiency helps to keep that money in the region. CPN has been working with communities throughout the Adirondacks to improve access to energy efficiency programs and is excited to share their expertise in their hometown.
Questions about the home energy workshop should be addressed to CPN’s Jennifer Monroe at 251-2525 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
