The focus of much of the archaeological research in the North Country is on the amazing historical events of our region, including battles during the War of Independence, the War of 1812 events, and the Underground Railroad, to name but a few. However, this region has been inhabited by indigenous peoples long before the arrival of Europeans; yet, we know little of this dynamic history of colonization, settlement, and land use. This lecture will discuss our current knowledge, results from recent excavations in the area, and new research initiatives.
