Santa Claus: The Man, The Saint, and The Icon
This Thursday evening at ROTA Gallery, find out how the Bishop of Myra became America's Santa Claus!
For 2,000 years Saint Nicholas has been a powerful guiding force in the consciousness of "Western man". Jeff Cochran will share the stories of the Three Miracles that transformed the Bishop of Myra (500 A.D.) into the sanctified guardian of sailors and the patron saint of fair trade.
We'll then trace the Saint through history, crossing continents and cultures, discovering how the spirit of St. Nicholas was honored before his rebirth in the 1860's as America's Santa Claus. Along the way, we'll get to learn some fascinating facts and fancies about Santa Claus cookies, Christmas trees, and toy factories.
Jeff Cochran will tell the story using a twenty food long story scroll on which he has illustrated the essential events in the life of the man, the saint, and the Icon.
Come on out at 7:00 pm, free admission!
