On Saturday, July 14, 2012, Plattsburgh Roller Derby’s North Country Lumber Jills will host their second home-bout of the 2012 bouting season. The will take on the Oz Roller Girls of Oswego, New York at the City of Plattsburgh Gym and Fitness Complex located at 52 US Oval. Doors will open to the public at 6:00pm with the first whistle at 7:00pm. Tickets go on sale on June 18th and can be purchased in advance for $10.00 at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/255192, and local businesses in the area such as Body Art Tattoo, the North Country Food Co-Op, the Great Adirondack Soup Company, and Conroy’s Organics. Tickets can also be purchased on the day of the bout for $12.00 at the door, $5.00 for children under 13, and children under 6 are free.
The two teams recently duked it out on June 2nd in Oswego where the Oz Roller Girls narrowly pulled out a 130-127 win against the Lumber Jills. Both teams are anxiously awaiting this heated re-match only a few weeks away. “We can’t wait to skate against the Oz girls again in July,” said Carlovely of the Lumber Jills. “We’ve been working hard since we last saw them and can’t wait to show them what we’ve got up our sleeve this time around.” Carlovely won the “Heavy Hitter” trophy in Oswego earlier this month. This is sure to be a re-match worth remembering and the making of a long-lasting rivalry between two very talented teams.
In addition to fast skating and heavy hitting, fans will be able to enjoy the beer garden, provided by Olive Ridley’s, bake sale goodies, and tons of new Lumber Jill summer merchandise. Plattsburgh Roller Derby’s cheerleading squad, the Lumber Jill Chainsaws, will also be back and ready to cheer their team to victory.
Plattsburgh Roller Derby is a skater-owned and operated roller derby league that formed in the spring of 2010. PRD prides itself in supporting the local community and dedicates its time to furthering the understanding of roller derby and female athleticism. Part of the proceeds from the Red, White, and Bruised bout will be donated to the JCEO food shelf.
